3D virtual reconstruction of Iulia Hașdeu Castle:
About Julia Hasdeu Castle
The Iulia Hasdeu Castle in Câmpina is one of Romania’s most fascinating historical monuments, steeped in mystery and legend.
It was built between 1893 and 1896 at the end of the 19th century by the renowned Romanian scholar Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu.
The castle was dedicated to the memory of his daughter, Julia, who died at the age of 19. This building is not only a testament to a father’s love for his daughter who died too young, but also a symbol of the interest in occultism and spiritualism of the era.

Between myth and truth: the building’s architecture is unique in Romania because it combines neo-Gothic elements with esoteric and occult symbols, being designed based on spiritual instructions received by Hasdeu through séances, which he attended in order to communicate with the spirit of his daughter.
The castle’s structure includes a series of unusual architectural features, such as circular rooms, metal construction elements, round windows, and stained glass, all designed to facilitate communication with the world beyond.
In the castle, you will also find a sculpture of Jesus Christ—a cultural heritage object, modeled by the BIM GIS Concept team (link on photo) and created by sculptor Raphael Casciani in 1896.
Iulia Hasdeu Castle is a major tourist attraction, drawing visitors from all over the world who are fascinated by the moving story of the Hasdeu family and the paranormal elements associated with the castle. Since 1965, it has housed the “B.P. Hasdeu” Memorial Museum dedicated to the life and works of Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu, offering visitors a window into the cultural and intellectual life of 19th-century Romania. Exhibits include original manuscripts, personal items belonging to the family, and a series of objects related to Hasdeu’s spiritualist practices.

The castle plays a significant role in promoting cultural tourism in Romania, being a remarkable example of heritage that combines history, architecture, and mysticism. Its conservation and maintenance are essential for preserving this symbol of Romanian history and culture for future generations. The recent restoration and conservation work highlights the importance of protecting this historic monument, not only for its architectural value, but also for the story and significance it carries.

The Iulia Hasdeu Castle in Câmpina is more than just an architectural monument; it is a place where history, mystery, and a father’s eternal love for his daughter come together. This building, emblematic of Romanian culture and history, continues to inspire and fascinate, representing a landmark in Romania’s cultural and tourist heritage. Through its stories, the castle reminds us of the deep connections between the material and spiritual worlds, inviting us to explore our country’s rich and complex past.
As we seek wisdom and believe we understand the world around us, there seems to be even more to discover and learn!
